Confidence-Based Quiz

The challenge was to create a study guide to go along with our course lesson presentations. Saving students valuable study time as the ultimate goal, we built a confidence-based quiz. How does it work? Before the student reads and entire online lecture, he or she answers 8 to 10 multiple-choice items. The student is also asked to indicate their confidence level for each answer.

The result is a confidence-based quiz “score” that factors (via weighting) the final quiz result not merely based on knowing the correct answer, but “knowing you know.” The quiz summary page prescribes where to spend some, more, and most reading time per lesson. All quiz items and student performance data are stored in a cloud at Pearson and is integrated with all the popular LMSs (Blackboard, ANGEL, Moodle, D2L, LearningStudio, etc.). It was user tested three times during our iterative development cycles. The product is coded to specifications of ADA/508 compliance.
